2026 Challenge Fabric
The Challenge:
Our challenge to all of the quilters is to create a fun quilt block using the fabric we have chosen. The entries are judged by the BBSH shops and then displayed during the Shop Hop. Challenge Kits, which include the fabric and an entry form, should be purchased for $2.00 from any of the official BBSH shops. After the Shop Hop the blocks will be assembled into quilts and donated to various charities chosen by the BBSH shops.
Blocks need to be 12" finished size (12 1/2" unfinished).
There will be three categories you can enter:
Pieced Blocks: Hand or machine pieced
Appliqued Blocks: Using the applique method of your choice
Combination Blocks: Combination of pieced and applique in a single block
One winner will be chosen per category. An additional Platinum Award (Judge’s Choice) will be chosen as well.
No embellishments, no 3D components so these blocks will be suitable for young children.
Deadline:
Turn in your Challenge Blocks to any of the BBSH shops by February 21st so we will have time to judge them!
You are still welcome to turn these in to participating shops after February 21st, but they will not be eligible for judging.
After the Shop Hop, the blocks will be assembled into quilts and donated to charity.

Prizes:
There will be a First Prize awarded in each category and a Platinum Award (Judge’s Choice) chosen as the overall winner.
Rules:
Challenge Block Rules:
1. Challenge fabric must be purchased from a Bluebonnet Shop Hop shop.
2. The challenge fabric must be used as an integral and recognizable part of the entry.
3. The official Entry Form (at the bottom of this page) must be securely fastened to the BACK OF THE QUILT BLOCK!
4. The block MUST MEASURE 12 ½“ SQUARE. The block should not be quilted so the block can later be set into a quilt top and quilted.
5. Judging emphasizes originality, creativity, visual impact, and workmanship.
Entry Rules:
1. Entries must be received by one of the official Bluebonnet Shop Hop shops no later than Saturday, February 25, 2025. Late entries will not be eligible for judging but will still be accepted.
2. Entries will be judged prior to Shop Hop and a list of winners will be displayed at each shop during the Shop Hop
3. There’s no guarantee where or if your blocks will be displayed during the Shop Hop.
4. All entries become the property of the Bluebonnet Shop Hop.
5. Enter as many blocks as you like; only one prize will be awarded per person.
6. The judges reserve the right to determine the category a block should be placed in.
7. All decisions of the judges are final.
